Once you log-in in, at the top it should say something like:
Hey, (yourname), you have 1 messages, 0 are new.

Click on the messages text that is yellow
This takes you to your personal message section.
In the yellow box which has 'inbox' written at one end. Click the 'preference' option which is located at the far right hand side of the yellow box.
At the bottom there is a drop down menu asking YES or No to:
Would you like an alert box to notify you when a new private message has arrived?
Change it to YES and your done.
Every time someone sends you a personal message and you are logged into this forum a notifictaion box will show up telling you you have a persoanl message.
