OMG! Well you must all know the news by now, Dumbledore was gay and was in love with in the end rival Grindelward. I was very surprised because of all characters, I never expected it to be Dumbledore.
What do you all think of this and do you think that Grindelward loved Dumbledore in return?

Well that's probably the biggest shock some fans have had in a while ^_^
I kind of suspected it after reading the book but I never thought she would actually go out and say it. My friend Chasity told me this today and I was like,"....Dumbledore?...Gay?....Are you sure she didn't say Sirius?" I mean really Sirius, Draco, or some others I wouldn't have been that surprised but Dumbledore? He was definalty not one I would think to have been gay. I didn't even think of him with anyone really.
I think that Dumbeldore's love story is very tragic. I really hope that Grindelward did love him back because Dumbledore deserved to have someone love him but I think that in another interview JK said that the love was unrequited so....
I also agree with JK....There will be TONS of fan-fiction now lol

I have always wondered of Dumbledore's love life as the series went along, being that NOTHING was mentioned of him. But again, his life was very private even Harry thought so in the HBP during/after the funeral, that he never got a chance to ask Dumbledore questions... As far as him being gay, I was taken back, I never expected it. I have always thought it was Snape, but the DH confirmed that he was indeed in love with Lily. I wonder if Dumbledore has always had a weakness for love, or did it began after he defeated Grindewald?

I read that on Hpana I think Jo didn't put it into the book because she didn't want to upset or offend anyone and bring the booksales down.

I wonder if Dumbledore has always had a weakness for love, or did it began after he defeated Grindewald? That's such a sad (and a sweet) thought. Poor Old Dumbie my heart really goes out to him. Maybe that's why he spoke of Harry's mothers love as such a sacred thing, because he knew he didn't have someone that would love him that much. Maybe he was jealous? I wondered when I first read J.K.'s comments about this, her saying that love blinds people to certin things, if she was really speaking about her first marriage. And if that, maybe, is where the tradgic story of Dumbie and Grindewald has it's roots.

I personally would like to hit anyone who is now prejudiced against Dumbly because he is gay. Who cares about his sexual orientation? It doesn't have anything to do with the plot anyway! Just being best friends with Grindewald would have sufficed. Why she chose to shove him out of the closet, I have no idea, but I think it was a bad idea because now people will think differently about him. Gay hate is a problem, and if she had wanted to save him from bashing, she could have. Why she didn't is beyond me. I also agree with sam6187 that she didn't say it outright because some people wouldn't have bought the book,

You have a point Doctorhuggles. Gay hate is a problem on this planet but I don't see why people hate them. They're just as normal as everyone else, only difference, they like someone who is the same sex as them, big deal! Gay people make awesome friends, and they are very trustworthy as well.
I don't think it was a bad thing that J.K let out Dumbledore's sexuality, and she did save him from a bashing because he's dead, you can't bash someone if they're dead. And if others think differently of him now, that's their problem. Dumbledore is still the same powerful wizard we love and mourn over, just because he's gay that doesn't mean his character has changed. And if there are people out there who think of Dumbledore differently now because we know he's gay, my question is, why?

When I had found out that Dumbledore was gay I was like okay it really doesn't have anything to do with the story line. WE could speculate about other characters now and their sexuality. It makes no difference to me if he is gay or straight.
I think alot of people go through a period in their lives when they start to question their sexuality. They don't understand feelings that they have for certain people.
