I am in the middle of reading a book called "A Wizard of Earthsea" by Ursula Le Guin and I was shocked by how close the story is to the Harry Potter series. Here's just a short list of the similarities I've noticed to far... The book is about a young boy called Duny, his mother dies when he is only a baby so he is sent to live with his Aunt, a rather cold, distance woman. As it turns our Duny is a wizard and becomes famous in his island at a young age for his magic. At the age of 12 and old, wise wizard comes to his home and offers to take his and teach him all he knows about magic. So, Duny sets off with him and ends up in a wizard school. Here he makes an enemy of an upper class blond haired boy who looks down on Duny's background. While showing off, to prove himself to this boy, Duny raises a woman from the dead. However, and evil "shadow" is raised with her and attacks Duny wanting to kill him so he can possess him and use his strength. Duny survives but is left with a horrible scar on his face. The shadow never stops trying to hunt him down, and it becomes clear that their faith is intertwined and for one of them to live fully the other must die. So, Duny, having left the school, goes on a search for the shadow determined to meet his fate and overcome his foe!!!!
need i say more! This book was written in the 1960's!!!! Tut, tut Jo! Me thinks she did a bit of plagiarising!

OK I have never heard of this book nor have I read it, yet. I do see the similarities.
I am sure if we read enough books we would start to notice how many of them sound familiar. I may have to look for this book and see for myself.
Thanks for sharing.
